Usually, lanes in the swimming pool are speed lanes and they are divided into 4 to 10 lanes depending upon the pool size. The lanes are placed in swimming pools to ensure that swimmers can enjoy their workout without interference from fellow swimmers. The average gym pool will have between 4 and 8 lanes, depending on the pool and lane width. The Olympic swimming pool contains 10 lanes for competition.
